Inside the Review Lab

Methodical reviews born in New York, refined by data.

Huda-Beauty Review Lab began in February 2024 in New York after noticing a pattern—reviews were polished, but rarely practical. We started with a small testing group of 6 participants and grew to 42 active testers by March 2026 (based on recent data). Early reports focused on wear time inconsistencies that weren’t reflected in marketing. That gap pushed us to formalize our testing framework. Today, every generally speaking, review follows controlled protocols rather than impressions alone.

Transparency drives every decision here. We don’t accept paid placement for rankings, and products are either purchased directly or documented as PR samples. Ingredient analysis follows INCI labeling standards and cross-checks with EU and FDA databases (as seen in practice). From what we can tell, and yes, we publish negative findings when they occur. That’s the agreement with our audience.

Structured Testing

From INCI to real-wear: how each Huda-Beauty product is validated.

Our reviewers include cosmetic formulators, licensed estheticians, and editorial testers with over a decade of combined field experience. Each product passes through at least two independent testers before publication. Internal calibration sessions happen monthly to maintain scoring consistency. It’s methodical, sometimes slow—but accurate.

What sets us apart is consistency under pressure. We test under humidity, heat, and long-wear conditions that reflect real use, not studio scenarios. We also log quantitative data—oxidation values, oil control duration, and texture breakdown. Few review platforms track these metrics in a structured way. That’s where it seems, our data becomes useful.

INCI & Safety Screen

Cross-check EU/FDA databases, fragrance flags, and allergen notes before wear begins.

Multi-Tester Application

Two to three testers apply under identical prep to reduce technique bias.

Heat & Humidity Runs

Measured wear in elevated humidity and heat to simulate real commute days.

Quant Scoring & Publish

ΔE oxidation, oil control duration, and texture breakdown inform final scores.

FauxFilter Foundation: 10-Hour Commute Proof?

The FauxFilter foundation held steady across 8–10 hour tests with ΔE under 2, signaling minimal oxidation. Glowish formulas required touch-ups by hour six. Oil control remained consistent with proper setting techniques.

FAQ

What readers ask most.

From long-wear stability to fragrance concerns, here are the fastest answers from our lab notes.

Ask a Lab Question
Are huda-beauty products suitable for long workdays?

Some are, but not all. The FauxFilter foundation held up well across 8–10 hour tests, while lighter formulas like Glowish required touch-ups by hour six. It depends heavily on your environment and application method. Setting products correctly makes a noticeable difference.

Do these products oxidize throughout the day?

Oxidation varies by formula. In our testing, the foundation showed minimal shift (ΔE under 2), which is considered stable. However, lighter tints shifted more noticeably under heat. Testing a shade for a full day is still the safest approach.

Is fragrance a concern in these formulations?

Fragrance is present in several items at detectable levels. While not inherently problematic, it may cause sensitivity for some users with repeated exposure. Checking the INCI list before purchase is recommended if you’re cautious about fragrance.

Which product is best for beginners?

The Easy Bake Powder is relatively forgiving when applied lightly and works across multiple routines. It doesn’t require advanced blending skills. Avoid heavier foundation layers if you're new—they can amplify texture if applied incorrectly.

Are higher-priced items actually better?

Not consistently. In this comparison, mid-range products performed as well—or better—than higher-priced ones in durability tests. Price reflects branding and packaging as much as formulation. Performance should always be tested independently.
